place as our ad-
vance of caval-
ry came into it.
Encamped two
miles this side
of town on the
Cumberland
river, on a stone
bank over 50 ft.
high. Cactus
growing, spon-
taneously, on the
bank of the riv-
er. Ordered to
subsi[s]t our men
on half rations
until further orders.
